Claude Monet - London, Houses of Parliament - On Paper
Limited Edition of 200
Curated by Edward Enninful
“London, Houses of Parliament” Enninful’s favorite painting from this collection, inspired the cover of the September 2021 issue of British Vogue featuring Gemma Chan. Regarded as one of the leading voices in the creative industry working today, Edward Enninful OBE, the curator of this special collection, has helped bring widespread distinction to global fashion. The only black person to serve as Editor-in-Chief in Vogue’s history, Edward successfully transformed the publication into a diverse and inclusive multi-platform brand. Edward’s dedication to diversity in fashion was honoured with the presentation of an OBE.
Between 1899 and 1901, Monet created nearly a hundred views of the Thames River in London. He painted Waterloo Bridge and Charing Cross Bridge from his room in the Savoy Hotel, and the Houses of Parliament from Saint Thomas’s Hospital across the river. Monet’s London paintings are characterized by variations in light and atmosphere, heavily influenced by the famous London fog that often enveloped the city, especially in autumn and winter. His brushstrokes are systematically broken into thousands of colored patches to capture the density of the atmosphere and mist.
