Maurice Utrillo (1883–1955) was a French painter best known for his atmospheric depictions of Paris, particularly the streets, churches, and buildings of Montmartre. Working largely within a distinctive representational style, he captured the character of the city through muted colours, textured surfaces, and evocative architectural compositions. Despite personal struggles, Utrillo developed a highly recognisable artistic vision that transformed everyday urban scenes into poetic reflections of Parisian life. His paintings remain celebrated for their authenticity, simplicity, and timeless charm.
