Werner Heldt

Werner Heldt (1904–1954) was a German painter, draughtsman, and poet whose work was deeply rooted in his relationship with Berlin. Trained at the Berlin Academy, he developed a distinctive style combining expressive figuration, simplified forms, and dreamlike imagery. His paintings and drawings often transformed the city into a poetic and melancholic landscape, reflecting themes of memory, solitude, destruction, and longing. Heldt is regarded as one of the significant German artists of the post-war period.
